Do I need to change my diet after installing a bracket system?

After braces have been placed, the patient should have a specific diet throughout the entire orthodontic treatment.

This requirement is due to 2 reasons:

• risk of caries development – food debris may remain under locks and arcs even after thorough cleaning;
• the possibility of damage to the braces .

There are several rules to follow after installing braces :

1. refrain from excessively hard and sticky foods (nuts, seeds, chewing gums, etc.);
2. cut solid food (vegetables, fruits and meat) into small pieces, chewing thoroughly with your side teeth;
3. Avoid hot drinks and foods, as these may cause the plates to flake off.

Despite the listed requirements, one should not completely switch to liquid and soft food – for normal functioning, the teeth must receive the necessary load.

Over time, after getting used to the presence of a foreign structure in the oral cavity, by the decision of the attending orthodontist, it will be possible to add additional foods to the diet, removing some restrictions.
