Bone augmentation is a surgical operation to artificially restore an insufficient volume of the jawbone, preceding the restoration of missing teeth by implanting implants and their subsequent loading with crowns or other orthopedic structures. It is an important step in dentistry before any implant surgery, as too low a height or sparse bone composition often excludes the possibility of placing implants in the jaw due to poor primary stabilization.
